TALENT

I will only use "I" in this brief section of copy.

"I" is frowned upon in almost every team and corporate culture. Even in golf "I" is discouraged, which frankly is just stupid. Your caddy did not bomb that drive 350 yards down the middle. He told you where the sand trap was. You might as well thank your GPS. Hell, thank the guy who put the satellite in orbit. While you are at, it be sure to thank the guy who installed the software on the satellite, and most importantly, the guy who thought GPS would be a really cool thing to use on a golf game.

Cliché riddled sport and corporate cultures, whose often imposed mantra of "there is no I in team", often forget there is an "I" in WIN. Lest we forget; that is why we are all here: to win

There is no doubt about it; talent always wins and when it wins, we win. Sadly it is difficult to find and harness talent. Why? Well I can think of two reasons:

1. For some, their talent was abandoned or never discovered, as the expectations of others and constant “What are you going to do with an art degree?” harassment, washed early life ambitions down the drain.

2. For others, their talent has been suppressed. Small fish + small bowl + sprinkle of food = small fish.

I believe it is my responsibility, as a business owner, to celebrate the individual; identify their talent, nurture it, subjugate it, pay it homage and, most importantly, to give it a chance to thrive. I believe talent is not rare. It may be difficult to uncover but with luck, hard work and the ideal setting it can be thoroughly exploited. And in case you were wondering, "exploited" is the perfect word to describe what we do to our talent, because in the end that is the product I sell: talent.

And that's good news for you because, as I said before, talent always wins.

It was day.
Then it was night.
And work was done betwixt the two

But what of their work and toil?
To what was the end?

To make themselves proud
To make their peers envious
To make their audience want to buy stuff, and thus,
To make their patrons rejoice

That was an end
but not their end for now

It was night.
Then soon day.

And still more work was to be done betwixt the two.
